Abortion Storytelling For The Soul

Ever since the overturning of Roe v. Wade on June 25, 2022, abortion access across the nation has shifted, flip-flopped, and in some states, became completely nonexistent.

A few states have stood strong against the largest act of disrespect to reproductive rights, and a few other states have been met with one devastation after another.

Through the extreme cases of forced pregnancies and extenuating barriers to care, one thing still remains true, abortion justice is a community effort! Courts and politicians have failed us, but people everywhere are working to make sure abortion stays accessible.

This is why I’m extremely excited to announce my upcoming event! Brought you by the minds and support of Beth Ward, Feminist Women’s Health Center, and Amplify Georgia, we’ve created a series that empowers the patient’s story and encourages their mind-body connection through creative writing. By telling my own abortion story, I’ve connected with people who may not have been open to my abortion justice work otherwise. I’ve changed the hearts and minds of family members, past acquaintances from high school, random people in the grocery store reading my pro-abortion shirt, and so much more.

This workshop is for folks who want to learn how to talk about their abortion experience, starting with telling our stories to ourselves. As a facilitator, we’ll walk participants through writing prompts to get their creative juices flowing, and you'll walk away with a few tools to explore your abortion story for your own self-knowledge and exploration.

Storytelling and guiding other abortion patients is just one way to stay in community at a time when we need it most. Click here to read my last blog post to find other ways to get involved!
